Split a large pattern across boards without losing alignment

A seam-planning method for multi-board builds that keeps coordinates, overlap, and fragile features under control.

Draw seams on the design before the hardware

Board boundaries are design decisions. Place them where color fields are calm and where a small coordinate shift will be visible early. A seam through a background is easier to verify than a seam through an eye, letter, or one-cell diagonal.

Use the creator's tile preview to inspect every boundary at 100%. Mark the global row and column at each seam so the physical boards have a shared reference even when they are moved apart.

Create a handoff between tiles

Name every tile with its row and column, such as A1 or B2, and keep a small overlap or alignment strip visible when the board model allows it. The overlap is not extra artwork; it is a verification cue. If the build must be trimmed into separate pieces, preserve the coordinate labels in the export.

For the koi pond, the water seam carries a repeating blue field. The fish stays in A1, the lettering stays in B2, and the lily-pad stem is not split across a connector.

Finish one tile at a time only after a global check

Before melting, place all tiles temporarily and check the full silhouette. A locally perfect tile can still be globally reversed or offset. Photograph the assembled, un-melted layout so you have a recovery reference for every seam.

When a tile is complete, store it with its label and chart slice. That small discipline makes a multi-day build recoverable instead of dependent on memory.
