Secure loose or tilted beads before the paper goes down so the first pass does not turn a small alignment issue into a permanent one.
Keep the pattern chart visible but away from the hot tool. A quick photo of the un-melted board gives you a reference if a pale color becomes hard to distinguish under the paper.
